Welcome to the inaugural issue of Design for Living, celebrating fine design in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Bay Area has long been a hub for the creative and avant-garde. We value—and encourage—unconventional behavior and innovative thinking. So it only makes sense that we produce design professionals who are true artisans and who thrive on pushing the boundaries of traditional design. Design for Living, a publication of Diablo magazine, brings you the stories of what these inspired individuals are creating for our homes and for our communities—from architecture to interior and landscape design to furnishings, accessories, and more—and how their innovations can enrich our lives.
In each issue, we will feature a guest editor, an expert in his or her design specialty, who will introduce the movers and shakers in that field and provide practical tips on how you can apply their ideas in your home. Our premiere issue focuses on architectural design, and we are delighted to welcome Sidney Sweeney, executive director of the American Institute of Architects, East Bay, as our guest editor. Sidney has compiled a collection of articles about the best of the best in Bay Area architecture, including stories featuring the 12 winners of the AIA East Bay Exceptional Residential: 2004–2005 Bay Area Regional Design Awards.
